"ADVENTURE IN PAINTING"

A play with chance, design and process.

Inspired by science Barbara was fascinated to discover how chance and uncertainty can lead to finding new images.  She starts by making spontaneous, arbitrary marks using a process of dripping, throwing and pouring the paint as well as tilting or shaking the canvas.  She intervenes using her intuition to add to or dilute the medium.  By this method some startling new forms emerge. This experimental way of working has produced a series of images ranging from the deceptively simple to complex original forms.

Quarry Delvers at Pear Tree Farm

                     Colin Stevens

     welcomes you to his exhibition

             "Quarry Delvers"

                          AT

                Pear Tree Farm
                    (near Lea)

The images depict a way of life for ordinary working people in the village of Little Eaton.

Little Eaton was a 19th Century centre for the stone quarrying industry which supplied stone for many of the local fine buildings in the county and beyond> Stone quarrying was a very hazardous industry and many men, including my ancestors, lost their lives supplying the demand for grit-stone fro the Victorian industrial revolution. The women of the district brought up their children, kept the home and worked as seamstress outworkers for the local hosiery and textile industries.

The workers were a self-sufficient group of proud people who lived in the small stone built cotages still to be seen in the village. My images are almongst those of my own family's dwellings and of their enviroment.

These were very hard times for the local populous and their hard work and sacrifies should not be forgotten. This is my tribute to their contribution to making life so tolerable for us today.

An exhibition held by Morph members Kieth Foster, Del Coombs and Christine Rozynska.

The first part of the exhibition during December 2009 has been sub-titled “THEN & NOW”.

Keith, after a number of years creating abstract paintings, is beginning to find more motivation in following a figurative path to his work.

Del, through his reuse of materials, is beginning to explore areas of collections and the value which is given to the collected items.

Christine is on a, journey searching for her “artistic identity” through trying different media and forms. Currently she is exploring the properties of porcelain paperclay, combining it’s delicacy with that of plant material mainly from her garden.

The work on display reflects the development of their approach to their very different styles.
